Tribute to Imrich Gál in National Theatre Košice 2025
The Opera of National Theatre in Košice was preparing a performance dedicated to Imrich Gál in 2020, whose 110th birth anniversary was being commemorated at the time. The coronavirus pandemic thwarted these plans. The current management of the National Theatre in Košice decided five years later to repay this imaginary debt and dedicate a performance of Tosca by Giuseppe Verdi to his memory on December 13, 2025.
In this opera, he sang the role of the diabolical police chief in Rome, the villain Scarpia, who is the prototype of a disgustingly manipulative, sadistic, depraved and sensual predator in human skin in the opera world. He is at the same time decadently attractive and repulsive.
The overall dramaturgy of the evening dedicated to Imrich Gál was conceived benevolently and generously. The performance began with an unconventionally spoken speech along with a video presentation about the artist. The audience received bookmarks with the artist's biography and photos. A short video was made about the performance, and the soloists of the Košice Opera met on stage with the singer's son, Imrich Gál, after the performance.
